Learn Your Classroom Placement!

Classroom placements are now finalized in PowerSchool, our student data system used to complete digital enrollment. We have instructions on our website for logging in, changing a password (if needed), and locating your child’s teacher. We ask all families, who are able, to sign into PowerSchool before the open house and follow instructions for finding teacher assignments.

Once you have learned your classroom placement, you can then find teacher welcome letters on our website for each of our lead educators. Check out their letter to “meet” them, to find out the location of their room, and to learn a bit about the beginning of the year in their space.

Can’t access PowerSchool? Contact Ms. Kristin B or call the front office (812.558.0041) and she will be very happy to help. Just remember that lots of phone calls and emails come in during these moments leading up to the first day, so patience and kindness are greatly appreciated!

Things we hope families will keep in mind as they learn classroom placements:

When creating class lists, we must consider a balance of grade levels, gender, strengths and needs, established relationships, input from teachers and families, the building of new connections, and more. When possible, we keep students with the same educator during their multiage span. Sometimes a family shares a request or asks for a change that we aren't able to make without dislocating another student. Due to the diverse criteria we must take into account, some families may not end up with the teacher they had hoped their child would be with this year.

We consider every single piece of input received, and work to create class lists that result in wonderful learning communities. We are proud to have such an amazing teaching team, with educators who work collaboratively and who often share students for different experiences throughout the day. We believe that all children can grow and thrive in their classroom.

If we were unable to place two students together as requested, we will work to create opportunities for shared lunch and recess, allowing for these friendships to continue to flourish.

Open House – Timing & Parking, Pick-Up Cards, Dismissal Plans

open house

We are looking forward to seeing as many of our families as possible for our back-to-school open house this evening (Tuesday)!

We have a few reminders to make sure it’s a smooth and productive connection before the first day of school:

Timing & Parking – The open house will take place from 5-6p, and we’ll say good evening and lock the doors promptly at that time. Our staff will have been working so hard for several days, and we want them to be able to head home to their own evening plans. Keep in mind that parking can be challenging around TPS, especially when all of our families are joining us at one time! Click here for various appropriate parking options around the school. Give yourselves ample time to park so that you won’t miss the open house window, and please do not park in business or residential lots, so that we can remain good neighbors!

Pick-Up Cards – While attending the open house, remember to grab the cards that will be placed on vehicle dashboards during dismissal all school year. They’ll be located in each child’s classroom. We highly recommend putting these into a plastic page protector if you’ve got access to one, to keep them functional throughout a year of hanging out in your vehicle. Can’t make it to the open house? We’ll get you your cards on the first day.

Typical Dismissal Plans – The open house is a great time to notify your teacher of what your child’s typical dismissal plan will be (vehicle pick up, walking, attending The Club). Remember that if your dismissal plan then changes on a particular day during the school year, you’ll let us know via our Absence & Alternate Dismissal Plan form, which can be found on our website and smartphone app.

Introducing... This Year's Compelling & Generative Topic!

The Compelling and Generative Topic or Question (CGTQ) serves as an overarching theme for the academic year. Through Lines are corresponding statements and questions which encourage students to dig deeply into the CGTQ. The CGTQ and Through Lines are used in every classroom of our school – from youngest to oldest – to guide individual, group, and community discussions and projects. All students and educators look at their academic year through this lens.

We are so excited to share this year’s CGTQ:

change and growth
Connected through lines will be finalized by our educators & shared in upcoming days.

Click here to explore our archive of past year CGTQs since the beginning of TPS!
