TPS Family Communications

SUMMER UPDATE #2 Thursday, July 25

Welcome to the inaugural issue of our redesigned newsletter format! We are very excited about this new tool, recently made available to us through our website/communications provider. We are in the process of learning all that it has to offer, so you’ll likely see additional changes in the future. We hope you'll find it user-friendly! You can also continue to access a plain-text version of all newsletters through our Family Communication Archive on the website.

Enrollment Reminders

(1) If you haven’t yet completed your online enrollment (sent individually by email to each family), we are asking you to do so as quickly as possible. If you cannot find your email with the link, or if you need assistance in completing the forms, please contact Ms. Kristin. She stands ready to help!

(2) If your child will no longer be attending TPS this coming school year as a new or returning student, we need to hear from you quickly so that we can reach out to families on the waitlist. Although we do so hope to have your child and family with us this year, please let Ms. Heather James know if your plans no longer include TPS.

important information

When Will Families Learn Classroom Assignments?

We know that families and students are eager to learn about classroom and teacher placements. The important work of making these determinations is happening in these last weeks of summer, and will be finalized with input from educators as we move into our staff retreat week. We thank everyone for their patience while we make important decisions to best support every student in our care. We will send families an email by Monday, August 5 with all information you’ll need. We promise to get you these details prior to our back-to-school open house, so that you’ll be ready to come see your classroom, greet your teacher, and get excited for the first day of school!

Back-to-School Open House Tuesday, August 6

Please join us for our back-to-school open house on Tuesday, August 6, from 5-6p (please note this new time), for an opportunity to visit your classroom, greet your teachers, drop off any school supplies you may have purchased, find your cubby or locker, and make sure you know exactly where to go the next morning for our first day. Keep in mind that this drop-in event is scheduled for one hour only, as it comes at the tail end of a very busy retreat, when staff have put in long hours, and may have a few more to go to get ready. Our hope is that they will be able to head home to their own families after the open house has ended. We apologize if this time does not work for all families. This will be the only open house time provided.

If you are able to join us for the open house, you’ll receive your dismissal placard (which is placed on vehicle dashboards to assist with a safe dismissal line) at that time.

open house

You are always welcome to request additional placards if you need them for other members of your family or others who will be picking up your child. If you are unable to join us for the open house, we’ll make sure to get you your placards in the first day or two of school.

Whether or not you are able to attend the open house, you are very welcome to walk your child into school and their classroom on the first day (and any day thereafter!). We want families to always feel welcome to be present prior to the start of the school day.

Aftercare, Enrichment & Break Camps @ The Club

In our previous Summer Update, we shared information with you about Boys & Girls Club (The Club) Membership for 24-25. The membership process is now open for families to register their children. As a reminder, in order to participate in ANY of Club programs for this coming school year, it will be necessary for a family to first enroll in annual membership ($20/annually per child).

Each Friday afternoon, TPS ends the school day at 1:07p, and The Club offers a special TPS-specific program called Enrichment. This fee-based program can be utilized each week, or on specific weeks that might be needed by a family. However, advanced sign-up is always required. Enrichment registration is now open. The Club will also soon be opening up registration for their fall/winter Break Camps.

Read about Club Membership, Aftercare, Enrichment, and Break Camps on our website.

You are invited to join The Club for an open house on Thursday, August 1, from 6-8p, to see spaces, enroll in membership, and learn more about all their programs. We highly recommend it, especially for new families!

Limited Before Care @ TPS for Families in Need of Support

before school care

We will once again offer a limited Before School Care program beginning at 7:45a each day and lasting until school arrival begins at 8a.

Before School Care is a limited program due to staffing and space constraints, with advanced permission and registration required.

We ask families to use this program only if it is absolutely necessary to make their schedule work. Before Care will take place in the Café in the Main Building.

Families will be charged only for the days that they use the Before School Care service.

Please note that this program is a privilege.

Click here to learn more, and to find the registration form and contact email for questions.

medication

Medication Administration

Does your child have prescription, over-the-counter, and/or emergency medication (epipen, inhaler, etc.) that you need to have the school administer? We ask families to complete a form, and submit it to the health office along with the medication, following the medication-specific instructions found on our website. Click here to find the form and all instructions. If your child has medication needs starting on day one, you are welcome to bring these with you to the open house, or you can drop them off on the first day of school. Please note that a parent or guardian must be the person to both complete the form and physically bring the medication to the office. Questions? Contact our Health Aide.

Breakfast & Lunch @ TPS

The Project School participates in the USDA National School Lunch Program. Each day of the school year we provide a breakfast and hot lunch option (both regular and vegetarian). We keep a lot of information about meals on our website, including an overview of our program, information and application for the Free & Reduced Meal option, how billing works, menus, resources for food insecurity, and more. Click here to find all the news that’s fit to print!

For families who believe they may qualify for the Free & Reduced Meal program, we strongly encourage you to complete the required annual paperwork, so that you can take advantage of this opportunity. The 24-25 forms are not yet available, but will be up on the website soon. We will send notification as soon as they are ready!

Vegetarian Meals Option

For children who eat strictly vegetarian, and who will regularly or occasionally eat school lunch, we ask you to complete this brief survey (returning families, please complete this again for the new year, even if you have completed in the past). This will help us in our planning.

We will always have vegetarian meals; however, we work hard to only order needed quantities, to reduce waste. Children who are not in need of a vegetarian option will be expected to select non-vegetarian meals when buying school lunch. Please note that TPS is unable to provide vegan meals as part of our meal program.

The above survey form is also posted on the meals page of our website throughout the year for families to access, in the event that a child becomes vegetarian mid-year.

Staff Retreat Week & Staff Meal Donations

Our staff will be hard at work from July 31 through August 6, doing great team building and curriculum design to get everyone ready for the start of the new school year. One of the things we try to do each year during staff retreat is to nourish our amazing staff, so that they feel the love from our school community. A couple years ago we started a tradition of hosting one especially lovely catered meal, sponsored by our school families. If you are able, we would be so grateful for financial contributions of any size to cover the cost of this catered meal. Our staff will know that it is our school families who have provided this special treat! If you’d like to contribute to the luncheon, please click here to access our donation page, and indicate in the "notes" section of your donation that it is for "staff retreat." We’ll take it from there! Thanks so much!
